Catherine Nyakao
Catherine Nyakao Ruge is a dedicated leader with a focus on promoting girls' education and women's empowerment.
She founded the Girls Education Support Initiative (GESI) to advance these causes. Catherine also serves as the Secretary General for the Women Wing (BAWACHA) of Tanzania's main opposition party, CHADEMA. With a background as a former Member of Parliament and holding an MBA degree and CPA certification, she is well-versed in financial management and governance. Catherine has been recognized for her advocacy efforts, being named an FGM Champion in 2019 and a Digital Politician of the Year in 2021.
Her parliamentary experience equipped her with skills in budget review, policy development, and public financial management. She has a passion for supporting vulnerable groups and has spearheaded initiatives such as constructing dormitories and classrooms. Catherine works to ensure women, especially in peripheral areas, are aware of their rights. She coordinated the national celebrations of International Women’s Day 2023, attended by 3,000 women and graced by the President of Tanzania. Catherine's driving force is her commitment to positive change and improving the lives of others.
